Prescription  appetite suppressant, may be prescribed for short-term use as part of an overall weight reduction program that also includes dieting, exercise, and counseling. These drugs work by stimulating the central nervous system, which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite.​  Prescription appetite suppresants are for use only by  individuals who's BMI is greater than 30 or a BMI greater than 27 if  who have an underlying medical condition—such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol—that could lead to serious medical problems.
